ZHANG Fazhi was born in 1976 in Chengdu, China and was a graduate of the
Sichuan Fine Arts Institute. He is renowned for his paintings of young men
and women donning red scarves that symbolize idealism, hope and youth. His
works reflect the passion for the expression of ideas in the quest for liberty and
democracy; the characters are often a self-portrait and the colour red is also the
same vibrant colour as the national flag of China. Zhang has held solo exhibitions
in China, Italy and Switzerland and several other group exhibitions in China,
Singapore and Korea, including those in The National Art Museum of China in
Beijing, Guiyang Museum and the Shanghai Art Museum.
